pros of turning 18: can legally do the stuff i already do
cons of turning 18: no longer the dancing queen

I knew people were going to talk shit about LA & UCLA “wasting water” and whatnot because of the broken water main and the fact that we’re in a drought. But regardless of whether or not we’re in a drought, this is still a pretty terrible situation to be in.

Millions of dollars in damage. People’s cars, including mine and my boyfriend’s, potentially submerged in water. A constantly packed gym, now ruined. A beautifully renovated track and field, destroyed. A historic and amazing home to several sports teams and events, ravaged.

But, thankfully, no one was hurt. The five people trapped in their cars received assistance and got out safely. What I just listed—cars, gyms, tracks—are just items and can be replaced. People are at my school right now, trying to clean up the damage before it gets worse, and they deserve some recognition. While we sit here and complain about the inconveniences this has caused us, these people are doing the dirty work for us and making things as normal as possible.

What’s the good in pointing fingers and bemoaning the fact that LA has worsened the drought? What will that do? The water is gone. No one could have predicted this. Now LA and California as a whole just have to come together and move forward until we overcome these issues. Keep conserving, keep looking out for each other.

The start of a little project I’m working on.
